If you wait until it’s completely dry - it will be rock hard and your job will be that much harder. If you need to carve the area to make it match let it dry for about 10 minutes, then work on it. Just use a plastic putty knife to push it into place, wait 30 minutes and then it will be pliable enough to sand. It’s a two-part product, that you mix together and then put in the areas if you are missing wood. Then after you have used the wood hardener you are ready to fill in any void area with Minwax Wood Dough. I told my daughter that - she didn’t listen to me - and had to use twice as much product. DON’T DIG OUT THE ROTTEN WOOD! Digging out the rotten wood only makes you have to use more product and that is just not necessary. You will need to brush on the hardener about three times, letting it dry between coats and until the area is shiny. It has a capillary action, which means that the rotten wood will suck up the hardener (like a sponge) up to the area where the wood is solid and hard. ![]() Minwax produces a product called Wood Hardener, which is a liquid.
